Do you support IPv6?

Since september 2017 all of our hosting packages are equipped with IPV6 addresses. Every domain and hosting package has IPV6 Ips in their DNS settings.

In this article we’ll explain what IPV6 is, why it’s important and how it works.

What is IPv6?

IPv6 stands for Internet Protocol Version 6 and is the successor to IPv4 . This new version solves one of the biggest issues with IPV4; a shortage of available IPs. An IPv4 address looks like this: 123.123.123.123 . An IPv6 address looks like this 0:0:0:0:0:ffff:c22:384e .

With a IPv4 address you can have 4 billion (4 × 109 (4.294.967.296)) IP addresses. With IPv6 there a lot of more possible IPs that can be used (3,4 × 1038 (340,282,366,920,938,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) ). This way we can make sure, we don’t run out of IPs.

How does it work?

Every package has four additional DNS-records now. These include the following subdomains::

  • domain.com

  • *.domain.com

  • mail.domain.com

You’ll find these records as AAA-records in your DNS settings.

How do I know if I’m using IPV6?

This depends on your Internet provider. If you have an IPv6 IP through them you will automatically use the IPv6 IP to visit the website. You can check if you already have an IPv6 IP by using the following website: https://www.watismijnipv6.be/
